Istanbul Tulip Fest 2012

Tulip had been symbol of period at the Ottoman Empire in the 18th century. Sultan III Ahmed paid lots of importance for the art and beauty. Tulips were grown in all around Istanbul to make city look more beautiful and while public suffer from being poor high society around Sultan spent too much money. Finally public was uprised this period was over in the Ottoman Empire and Sultan was changed by uprising.

Nowadays Tulip has been become symbol of Istanbul. Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality started tradition and for last 7 years tulips were grown in Emirgan Forest, Sultanahmet, Çamlıca and Hidiv Forest between 1st Arpil to 30th April. Moreover squares, streets, gardens and forests were beautify by different colors of tulips.

Santral Istanbul

Silahtaraga Elektrik Santrali was the first power plant in the Ottoman Empire. Power plant had provided electricity for Istanbul since 1914 to 1983. Silahtaraga Elektrik Santrali was built near Goldenhorn where was first industrial area of the Istanbul.

Power plant started to provide electricity for tramway lines then electricity was provided for European side of the Istanbul. In the late 1920s power plant started to service to Anatolian part of the Istanbul by under water lines through the Bosphorus. Until 1952 power plant provided electricity for whole over Istanbul. In 1983 Silahtaraga Elektrik Santrali completed it’s economic cycle and it was shut down.

Silahtaraga Elektrik Santrali was converted Santral Istanbul in 2007 by Oguz Ozerden who is founder of Istanbul Bilgi University. Santral means power station in Turkish. The land where power plant was situated converted to university campus and main building of the Silahtaraga Elektrik Santrali is used as museum nowadays. There are art gallery, energy museum, library, institutional facilities, restaurants and cafes in the power plant area.There is parking lot in the university campus. Public transportation is close to Santral Istanbul and in the Taxim Square in front of Ataturk Kultur Merkezi there are shuttle buses which charges free for transportation to Santral Istanbul.http://www.santralistanbul.org/main/index/en

Miniaturk

Miniaturk was found in May, 2003 and it is the first miniature park in Turkey. Miniaturk was constructed 60K square meters area which is situated near Golden Horn. Miniaturk has car park lot with the 500 vehicles capacity and also public transportation provides access to Miniaturk Park.Miniaturk was built by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and the park is governed by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.
Models were build by 1/25 ratio with respect to originals. Models were made in Turkey in different 10 workshops. They are made of plastic based materials that provides strength against different climate conditions.

There are 120 models from different culture and civilizations such Rome, Ottoman Empire, Turkish Republic all over Turkey. For instance; Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Dolmabahce Palace, Topkapi Palace, Ephesus, Temple of Artemis, Haydarpasa Train Station, Bogazici Bridge, Ataturk Airport. Moreover in the park area there are model cars, model planes, model ships and train.

It takes to roam all around the park about 2 hours and way is designed to walk to one direction therefore it is possible to see all models respectively. Tickets have code system that provides voice information in front of all models in different languages such as Turkish, English, Russian, German, Italian, French and etc.

In the Miniaturk there is playground for kids with the shape of Troy and labyrinth. There are also remote control ships swimming on the pool inside the park. While you enjoy watching icons in the Miniaturk your children will be having fun in the facilities. There is restaurant which has low prices with good meal. There are 2 souvenirs shops in the park area and one museum.

If you are planning to visit Miniaturk in summer you should have taken glasses and hat/cap however it is better to visit the park before 12pm or after 4pm. It is possible to visit Miniaturk from 9am to 6pm each days Monday to Sunday. Entrance fee is 10 TL ($7/€5) for foreign visitors. In Miniaturk different prices are asked from Turkish citizen and foreigners as all other countries do. It is accepted cash or credit card however as currency only Turkish Lira is accepted for entrance.

Istanbul is the biggest and most crowded city of the Turkey and also the third biggest city of the Europe. There are 13 millions of people live in Istanbul and this huge population brings diversity of life style. It is possible to see mosque, church and synagogue in the same area with close distance to each other that shows people can live their religions freely. From one side there are people who has just migrated from their village and has been trying to get used to city life and on the other side there are people who lives in a European city. All these people has Turkish origin with the great hospitality and lives in amazing harmony with each other.

Since 330 Istanbul has served as the capital city for Roman Empire to Byzantine. Fatih Sultan Mehmet conquered Istanbul in 1453 and since 1453 Istanbul serve as capital city for the Ottoman Empire. By the foundation of Turkish Rebuplic Ankara named as capital city and Istanbul became financial, historical and econical centre of the country.

Istanbul divided into two parts by the Bosphorus as Asian(Anatolian) and European part. The Bosphorus is nature wonder and provides seaway between north and south. Countries around the Black Sea are connected to all around the world by the Bosphorus seaways. There are two bridges between Asia and European parts of Istanbul, the connection between two continentals were established with these bridges through highways.

Every year more than 7 million foreign visitors come to Istanbul to enjoy history and the nature of the this beautiful city. It is said that Istanbul is the one of the best cities of the Europe by the tourists. There are lots of places to see in Istanbul such as Hagia Sophia, Sultanahmet, Topkapi Palace, Dolmabahce Palace, Beylerbeyi Palace, Ciragan Palace, Maiden’s Tower, Galata Tower, Sunken Palace(Yerebatan), Eminonu, Taxim, Karakoy, Kadikoy, Haydarpasa Station, Sirkeci Station, Yedikule Fortress, Rumelian Castle, Anatolian Castle and etc.
